Message from Stewart Rae

As many of you are aware I am a paid contributor to Model Boats magazine. It is my wish to put some of my financial rewards back into our society. Therefore, and with effect from the start of the 2011 racing season, I intend to sponsor two cash prizes in each summer season.

1. Best Junior    2. Best Newcomer

1. Best Junior - is open to any BMPRS member, 18 years or under in that particular race season.

2. Best Newcomer - for 2011 only - ANY member of BMPRS, whether joining as a new member or as a present member renewing their subscription.

Then, from 2012 season onwards, it will revert to NEW BMPRS members only.

Here's how it will work

The total of your points over the season scored in any one class will count.  The member with the highest total at the end of the season wins the prize. (this is not the adjusted 'best of 6' total, but your actual total scored in any one class).

'The season' is the summer race season only

The cash prizes are £50 Best Junior and £50 Best Newcomer

Good luck to everyone and all the best for the New Year

Notes from the AGM

The BMPRS Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 27th November 2011 at the RAOB Club in Coventry.

The meeting began at 10.40am with 20 members and 2 guests present.

The Chairman, Danny Bell, gave a short report in which he thanked every member for all they had done to help create the best racing society in the UK.

Andy Rennie, our Treasurer, gave details of our income and spending which, together with the increase in members, has left a healthy balance in the bank.  Subscriptions will remain the same for 2012, at £10 for new members and £8 for renewals.

It was decided to combine the roles of Treasurer and Membership Secretary for this year, so the following were elected (or are restanding) -

Chairman - Danny Bell

Secretary - Stewart Rae

Treasurer/Membership Secretary - Andy Rennie

Child and VP Protection officer - Andy Rennie

Health and Safety co-ordinater - Mark Wild

Junior Representative - Sally Butler

Public Relations officer - Stewart Rae

Webmaster - Danny Bell

The club representatives are:

Branston - Andy Rennie,  Kingsbury - Malcolm Pratt,  Stevenage - Bill Warder,  Telford - Giles Ponting

The rule changes passed were -

1. that boat tops must have either one or more painted figures, or clearly defined cabin windows.

2. that the 2” (50mm) side height rule (11.7) only applies to SUBMERGED DRIVE boats.

3. that the time limits for proposals, rule changes and nominations are all standardised at 28 days before the AGM.

After the very tasty free buffet lunch and a relaxing “chat break”, we talked about the provisional 2012 racing calendar and were pleased to find that a number of clubs have asked that the BMPRS hold race events at their lakes.  These will be investigated by the committee and one or more added to the calendar if found suitable.

It was decided that the number of races to count towards the 2012 Championship is based on half of the number of races plus one ( 6 from 10 on the current provisional calendar)

The presentation of trophies was made to the happy recipients -

AA class - 1. Robin Butler     2. Andy Rennie     3. Mark Beesley

A class -  1. Graham Stanley     2. Steve Pratt     3. Danny Bell

B class -  1. Sally Butler    2. Andy Rennie     3. Mark Beesley

C class -  1. Danny Bell     2. Andy Uttley     3. Mark Beesley

D class - 1. Andy Uttley     2. Mike Durant     3. Kevin Alcock

The Member of the Year trophy was awarded to Lee Clarke

Stewart Rae then presented the following awards -

Pairs Trophy (plus cash prizes) -

1. Kevin Alcock and Danny Bell  2. Robin and Sally Butler  3. Mike Durant and Steve Pratt

Best Junior - Sally Butler

Best newcomer - Robin Butler (2011 award was open to all members)

Stewart also presented flowers to Sue Butler and Lynda Bell for their help with lapscoring.

So, despite the doom and gloom of the national financial situation, the members all seemed to enjoy the meeting and left in a good mood, looking forward to the 2012 season.
